I want to push back on one to two ideas for an article as a general rule. I understand, and it's good advice in aggregate, but I do like a nice, rambling article on occasion in Medium. I think it depends on my frame of mind. For a comparison, I watch 'Is it Cake?' with my kid. We sometimes scroll photos from the show to just see the cake or ingredients, but when we watch the show it's for all the side quests involved, for the back and forth and rationalising/explanation offered by the individuals involved. I think it's fine to be direct and specific in an article - I edit scientific articles, and they are like recipes. You can read how something was done, just the abstract or conclusion, etc. You can get what you need. But I do enjoy the occasional essay in a book that just describes a series of experiences as well. We're a very results-oriented society sometimes, and there is a lot of pleasure to be had in random journeys. Maybe not a lot of profit or publication, but that's a flaw as much as it is a feature sometimes. Cake is great, but it is not the reason a lot of like learning to bake.
