I like Sherry Turkle's work in this area (http://sherryturkle.mit.edu/.) I think it is true that our system is designed to isolate and engage/addict (perhaps too strong a word) individuals instead of foster collaboration. If we spent half the money on actual humans (existing educational structures like public schools, for example) that we do on AI and its various 'creators' we might have a lot more innovation and possibly less aggression. However, systemically we aren't so motivated. It's like a bad marriage where one partner is altering his/her/their world and the world of any offspring to uphold the 'income-earner' and the income-earner's sense of central importance/responsibility (double-edged sword.) It feels backwards.
